俗名：姬天草 小天草
说明：小天草顾名思义是指比该原种要小型，而很大程度上大小的尺度常常无法掌握用于区分这个变种，栽培上观察，这个种无法长到足够大，而原种H.herbacea虽然有时候在很小就可以生侧芽，却可以长的比较大。这个变种最早在二次世界大战前就已经命名，算是发现比较早的瓦苇品种了，但是后来没得到足够重视，其实它也是非常具有观赏价值的小型瓦苇。这个品种栽培上没什么困难，侧芽可以取下扦插。
